Technical sheet of Motorola ThinkPhone

Description

The Motorola ThinkPhone is Motorola's latest, flagship phone, and it has been making quite a splash in the market. It boasts a sleek design, with a 6.60-inch pOLED screen and a resolution of 1080x2400 (FHD+), refreshed at 144 Hz, and up to 1200 cd/m² peak brightness. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, and the usable surface ratio comes in at 88.6%.

The audio capabilities of the ThinkPhone don't leave much room for improvement; it has two stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos sound, while the Bluetooth 5.2 ensures connectivity with other devices. Dual SIM, USB Host 3.0, NFC, and WiFi 6 (802.11ax) are also available.

Inside the ThinkPhone, you'll find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 (4nm) processor, 8GB LPDDR5 RAM, and 256GB UFS Storage 3.1. According to AnTuTu benchmark tests, its score is 987500 – impressive indeed! As for security, you don't need to worry – the ThinkPhone comes with Fingerprint Display technology.

In terms of camera performance, the ThinkPhone is just as impressive as the rest of the specs. It has a triple camera setup, with the standard Omnivision OV50A, 50.0Mpx lens, f/1.8 aperture, 1.000 pixel size, and CMOS, plus a wide angle +macro lens (13.0Mpx, f/2.4), and a portrait mode (depth) lens (2.0Mpx, f/2.4). It also features optical stabilization (OIS), 4K video, and 8K video recording. The front-facing selfie camera is a 32.0Mpx lens, f/2.45 aperture.

Finally, the battery life is also quite impressive – the ThinkPhone packs a 5000mAh capacity, with support for 68.0W fast-charge and wireless charging. With all these features, it's no wonder the ThinkPhone is one of the most popular smartphones on the market today since its release in January 2023.

Very fast and almost empty Android 13 with the latest fixes

The only drawback of the phone are the cameras, which, as a person dealing with video editing, I rate on average. Better photos were taken by the 5-year-old HTC U12 + (from which I switched and probably because of Sony matrices). Blurring in detail visible after magnifying the photo 1:1. In general, I recommend only using normal 4K mode (for photos and video), because in 8K the blur is even greater, and the wide-angle option is a failure. Maybe they'll issue a fix?

    What is a Ki score?
Ki is an automatic score based on the specifications and prices of devices. It is calculated using over 200 variables to rank smartphones, tablets and other devices from best to worst.
How do we calculate the Ki?

In this case, to determine the score we evaluate 5 general aspects:

    • Design and screen
    • Hardware and performance
    • Camera
    • Connectivity
    • Battery

Once these 5 factors have been rated, we introduce the price variable. This means that any two devices with the same ratings get a different Ki score for quality vs price.

Even a device objectively worse than another may have a higher Ki score if it has a better price.

    Does the Ki score change?

The Ki varies as time goes by. As new devices with better specifications enter the market the Ki score of older devices will go down, always being compensated of their decrease in price.
