- A missed chance to make a VERY good eye-friendly IPS phone
I decided to try the G54 as the only phone with decent specs and IPS screen recently released to the market. However, it has largely been a disappointment. The display, although free of PWM exhibits some other type of GPU-related flicker and the display has very low contrast in certain light conditions and a horrible reflectiveness i haven't seen on any other phone. Sometimes it feels like you're looking into a mirror. To make matters worse, the phone doesn't seem to have a colour temperature sensor and the ambient light sensor is either not working or acting very slow, even after weeks of use. It means you'll have to keep scrolling down all the time for the brightness menu, which on Android 13 and later takes 'conveniently' two swipes to access.
The camera is mediocre and most of all inconsistent. Sometimes during the day you'll be able to take flagship-grade photos, with excellent sharpness, especially if you install Gcam. However, every third photo or so will be totally out of focus and blurry, as seen on some cheapest Xiaomi devices 10 years ago. So that means you'll have to take three photos each time to be sure one of them has the right focus and sharpness. Motion photos are out of question. Despite OIS a slightest move willl make your pictures blurry since as i understood the shutter is very slow. The macro camera is basically an insult to the intelligence and completely uselessPros- Very pleasant form factor, design and weight
- Faux leather back cover is sublime
- Lots of Motorola gestures and features
- Audio quality is acceptable, FM radio, 3.5 jack
- Fast GPS
- Very good Wi-Fi connection
Cons- Absence of color temperature sensor
- Ambient light sensor of very poor quality/not work
- Exceptionally reflective screen
- Inconsistent cameras, useless macro sensor
- Android 13 is very slow compared to previous versi
